Yankees expect to be without Judge for Wild Card round

Aaron Judge's moderate right calf strain has the Yankees captain unlikely to appear in the upcoming Wild Card series, though he has not been officially ruled out.

New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone told reporters that Aaron Judge sustained a moderate grade strain in his right calf. The injury sent the team captain to the 10-day injured list. Judge underwent a platelet-poor plasma injection on Monday, which was an off day for the club.

Boone addressed the situation before Tuesday's doubleheader with the Tampa Bay Rays. He said the Yankees are not counting on having Judge on the field for the Wild Card series. No formal decision has closed the door on his participation, but Boone indicated the chances of him playing are fading.

The club is expected to announce its postseason roster early next week. Judge's status leaves his availability for that roster in serious doubt as October approaches.
