Commanders await specialists' verdict on Jayden Daniels' elbow

Washington says Marcus Mariota will start against Seattle while Daniels undergoes imaging and meets with doctors about his dislocated left elbow.

Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels, who left Sunday's loss to Dallas with a dislocated left elbow, underwent imaging Monday and is scheduled to meet with specialists Tuesday and Wednesday, according to head coach Dan Quinn. The team says no firm update will come until those evaluations are complete.

With Daniels sidelined, Marcus Mariota will start Sunday's game against Seattle, and Ian Rapoport reported that the stretch could extend beyond one start. The club has not decided whether to place Daniels on injured reserve, and Quinn said he and general manager Adam Peters have not talked about adding a veteran passer at this point.

Other injury news from Quinn: safety Nick Cross stayed overnight in Dallas for evaluation of an internal injury, was discharged Monday morning, and is flying home. Guard Sam Cosmi is in the concussion protocol, tackle Brandon Coleman appears on track to play, and defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw is expected to be limited and needs an MRI on his shoulder.

On the field, Cross, linebacker Sonny Styles, and cornerback Amik Robertson each played all 55 defensive snaps against Dallas. Receiver Dyami Brown also saw more playing time than both Dyami Brown's counterparts at the position in that game, something beat writers flagged as a storyline for the week ahead.

Before exiting, Daniels reached a notable milestone, becoming the fastest player in league history to combine 5,000 passing yards, 1,200 rushing yards, and 35 touchdown passes, doing so in 26 career games. Washington sits at 0-2 after the loss to the Cowboys.
