Brighton Lead Premier League xG Table After Five Weeks

Expected goals data through five weeks puts Brighton top of the Premier League, with Manchester United fourth and Aston Villa last.

Five weeks into the Premier League season, expected goals data suggests Brighton have been the most dangerous attacking side in the division. Fabian Hurzeler's club have posted 11.49 xG, the highest figure in the league, and they have done it against a schedule that included Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal.

Manchester City sit second on 10.50, with Brentford (9.9), Manchester United (9.89) and Sunderland (9.77) completing the top five. Arsenal rank sixth in attack but lead the league in expected goals conceded at 4.04, while Liverpool sit seventh on 8.34 xG and remain unbeaten under new manager Andoni Iraola.

At the other end of the table, several big names are struggling. Newcastle United sit in the bottom five for both xG and xGC, Tottenham have generated only about 1 xG per game, and Aston Villa rank last in attack and fifth from bottom in xGC despite their 3-2 weekend win over Spurs.

Ipswich Town, with 7.72 xG, sit level with Leeds and just above Chelsea, who are only 12th in attack and 15th in xGC.
