Caleb Williams Hamstring Injury Draws Comparisons to Mahomes' 2019 Season

The Bears quarterback's early exit against Minnesota has fans recalling a similar setback Patrick Mahomes overcame on the way to a Super Bowl title.

Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams exited early in the team's defeat against the Minnesota Vikings after hurting his right hamstring. Initial concern centered on the possibility that the issue could sideline him for the remainder of the year.

The situation has invited comparisons to Patrick Mahomes in 2019. That season, Mahomes dislocated his right kneecap during a Week 7 matchup with the Denver Broncos, prompting fears his year was finished. He recovered quickly, though, missing only two games before returning to lead the Kansas City Chiefs to a Super Bowl victory.

There are other parallels beyond the injuries. Both quarterbacks entered their respective seasons off standout years, and both were chosen as the cover athlete for that year's edition of Madden — Williams for EA Sports Madden 27, Mahomes for Madden 20. Mahomes had also won MVP heading into 2019.

Williams guided Chicago to one of its finest seasons in recent memory last year, including the franchise's first playoff victory in 15 years, which came against the Green Bay Packers. The Bears' run ended with a loss to the Los Angeles Rams. Whether Williams can mirror Mahomes' recovery and postseason success remains to be seen.
