Michael Owen: Unhappy Marcus Rashford Is Manchester United's Weak Link in Attack

Former United striker Michael Owen says Marcus Rashford looks unhappy at Old Trafford and could lose his spot as the vulnerable piece of the front three.

Michael Owen believes Marcus Rashford is not enjoying his football at Manchester United after a slow start to the season. The 28-year-old forward has played in six of United's seven matches without recording a goal or an assist, including a 1-1 draw at Fulham last Sunday.

Speaking to Premierleague Productions and cited by Metro, Owen said Rashford has been the quietest of United's attackers and questioned why the forward appears to carry the weight of the world despite living every player's dream. He suggested something behind the scenes may be affecting the player's mood.

Owen also pointed to Rashford's loan spell at Barcelona, where the forward did reasonably well but not well enough for the club to keep him, with Barcelona spending heavily to sign Anthony Gordon as a replacement.

The former striker said Rashford has the physical and technical attributes to be a world beater but lacks the mentality to produce it consistently, noting the player has shown his ability only in patches since his 30-goal, 12-assist campaign in 2022/23. Owen added that if Benjamin Sesko returns from injury and Matheus Cunha shifts to the left, Rashford would be the weak link in the attack.
