Analysts see the former Knicks champion as a potential defensive anchor in Boston if he can stay on the floor in 2026-27.
The Boston Celtics acquired center Mitchell Robinson this offseason in a move that followed the trade of Jaylen Brown to the Philadelphia 76ers. Analysts at Celtics Wire projected the big man's upcoming 2026-27 season, noting he is set to earn $15 million per year with the club.
Robinson, 28, spent his entire career with the New York Knicks and is a reigning NBA champion. He has not played more than 60 games in a regular season since 2021-22, which frames the central question of his Boston tenure: availability.
Celtics Wire's Justin Quinn projected Robinson to appear in 55-60 games, resting on back-to-backs, while colleague Daniel Donabedian predicted a bench role to open the season. Both analysts highlighted his shot-blocking and offensive rebounding as reasons he could reshape the Celtics defense.
Robinson is expected to compete for minutes with Neemias Queta at the five spot under head coach Joe Mazzulla. If healthy, Donabedian suggested, he could push for a starting job and give Boston a strong center tandem.
