Seven Nominees Named for Post-Crescent High School Athlete of the Week

Voting is open until 3 p.m. on Sept. 26 for the Cellcom Post-Crescent honor, with two football players, three volleyball players and a boys soccer player among the candidates.

Seven high school athletes from the Appleton, Wisconsin area are up for the Cellcom Post-Crescent athlete of the week. Readers can cast ballots until 3 p.m. on Sept. 26, with no subscription required and a limit of one vote per hour on each device. Last week's poll went to Rosie and Nomie Whitlinger of Appleton North girls tennis, who collected 1,763 of 3,276 votes.

The football nominees are Aidan Aerts of Freedom, Logan Bivens of Menasha and Osaze Fournillier of Xavier. Aerts caught five passes for 140 yards and two touchdowns in a 50-7 win over Kohler/Sheboygan Lutheran/Christian. Bivens scored five touchdowns and ran for 101 yards on 12 carries as Menasha beat Green Bay West 48-8. Fournillier finished with four receptions for 162 yards and three scores in Xavier's 42-6 victory against Seymour.

Volleyball is represented by Morgan Buechel and Alex Krause of Kimberly plus Alaina Patchett of Fox Valley Lutheran. Buechel posted 27 digs and 91 assists across five matches at the Charger Challenge Invite, where Kimberly went 4-1, and added 21 assists in a 3-1 win over Appleton North. Krause recorded 35 kills and 37 digs as the Papermakers went 3-1 at the Dave Hash Invite. Patchett notched 27 kills, 30 digs and four aces while leading FVL to a 3-0 record at the Lutheran Invitational Tournament.

Rounding out the list is Cal Calhoon of Freedom boys soccer, who contributed three goals and two assists in an 8-0 rout of Little Chute. Nominations for future weeks can be emailed to [email protected] with statistics and context, using the subject line "Athlete of the Week nominee."
