Washington will start Marcus Mariota against Seattle while Jayden Daniels consults specialists on his dislocated left elbow, and several other starters are recovering.
Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels dislocated his left elbow in Sunday's loss to the Dallas Cowboys, head coach Dan Quinn confirmed. Daniels was hurt when left guard Chris Paul stepped on his foot, causing him to fall and brace himself with his left hand. X-rays came back negative, but Quinn said Daniels will meet with specialists Tuesday and Wednesday before any timeline is set.
Daniels, who dislocated the same elbow last November, will not play in Sunday's Week 3 home opener against the Seattle Seahawks. Veteran Marcus Mariota will take over as the starter.
Quinn also disclosed that safety Nick Cross, who played every snap in Dallas, stayed overnight in a hospital with an internal injury. Cross was discharged Monday and flew back to Virginia, though Quinn declined to give details about the injury.
Three other starters left the Cowboys game and did not return. Quinn said left tackle Brandon Coleman is trending toward playing after treatment on a finger injury, while defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw will be limited in practice and receive imaging on a shoulder. Right guard Sam Cosmi has entered the concussion protocol.
If Cosmi cannot face Seattle, Quinn mentioned rookie Matt Gulbin, veteran Lucas Patrick and backup tackle Andrew Wylie as options at right guard.
