Dan Campbell indicated Blake Miller is close to returning and Christian Mahogany is set to return to practice ahead of Sunday's matchup with New York.
Detroit head coach Dan Campbell offered an encouraging update Monday on two injured offensive line starters. Right tackle Blake Miller, who sat out last Thursday's defeat in Buffalo because of a knee issue, appears likely to be available when the Lions face the New York Jets on Sunday.
Campbell told reporters that Miller likely would have suited up had the Bills game fallen on a regular Sunday, and he expressed confidence the rookie is moving toward clearance this week. With Miller sidelined, Larry Borom drew the start at right tackle and committed three penalties in his Detroit debut.
At left guard, Christian Mahogany is scheduled to rejoin practice on Tuesday, according to Campbell. How his body responds to that workload will determine whether the Lions clear him to face the Jets. Both Mahogany and Miller were ruled out before the Week 2 loss to Buffalo.
Campbell stopped short of promising that either player would start in Week 3. Mahogany remains in the evaluation stage, while Miller looks close to game readiness. Ben Bartch filled in at left guard against the Bills.
