Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell provided a cautious update on safety Kerby Joseph, saying the team wants him on the field but cannot predict when he will be available.
Speaking Tuesday on 97.1 The Ticket, Campbell addressed doubts about whether Joseph will play at all this season. He said he could not offer reassurance, noting the situation will unfold in its own time and that Joseph is simply not ready yet.
Campbell said the team is working to get Joseph back as quickly and intelligently as possible, and that he will play as soon as he is ready.
Joseph has been hampered by knee issues since early last season. Campbell said Monday that fellow safety Brian Branch, recovering from a torn Achilles, is likely closer to returning from the physically unable to perform list.
Detroit lost another safety, Avonte Maddox, to an injury in Week 2 and signed veteran Jalen Mills to its practice squad Monday to shore up depth.
