Miguel Rojas Gets Emotional as Possible Final Dodgers Season Winds Down

The 37-year-old infielder announced in 2025 that 2026 would be his last season, though he has left the door slightly open.

Los Angeles Dodgers infielder Miguel Rojas is confronting the possibility that the 2026 season is his last in Major League Baseball. Rojas, who announced his retirement plans in 2025, told Dodgers Nation's Noel Sanchez that he does not take any opportunity to take the field for granted.

"It can be that time, I never take it for granted," Rojas said. He added that he does not know when his final plate appearance will come, which is why the moment is emotional for him. He has said he might return for another season if the Dodgers win the World Series, but acknowledged there is no guarantee.

Rojas, 37, began his MLB career with the Dodgers in 2014, spent eight seasons with the Miami Marlins, and returned to Los Angeles via a trade before the 2023 season. He said his retirement decision was not about declining skills, pointing instead to his family, including his wife and two children, as the reason he wants to step away.

In a depth role this season, Rojas has made 101 appearances with four home runs, 22 RBIs, and a .710 OPS over 243 plate appearances. His defensive metrics remain strong, and he has won the Roy Campanella Award, given to the most inspirational Dodger, in each of the last two seasons.

With six games left in the regular season, Rojas and the Dodgers are aiming for a third consecutive World Series title as his career nears its possible end.
