ESPN lands Copa do Brasil rights for 2027-2030 cycle

The Brazilian Football Confederation confirmed ESPN as a rights holder alongside Globo and Amazon in a record deal for Brazilian football.

The Brazilian Football Confederation and ESPN confirmed a broadcast rights agreement for the Copa do Brasil covering the 2027 through 2030 seasons. ESPN joins Grupo Globo and Amazon in a package the CBF describes as the largest rights deal in the history of Brazilian football, worth more than R$ 4 billion for the cycle.

The deal represents an increase of more than 80% over the previous cycle and also includes the Supercopa Rei from 2028 to 2031. Under the package structure, Grupo Globo holds free-to-air TV rights plus a multiplatform package, while Amazon and ESPN share a separate multiplatform package. CBF president Samir Xaud called the agreement historic, citing the competition's growth and the quality of delivery expected alongside Globo, Amazon, and ESPN. Carlos Maluf, head of sports at The Walt Disney Company Brazil, noted the Copa do Brasil is the country's broadest tournament, with clubs from every region, and said it was a privilege to bring the competition back to ESPN and Disney+.

Starting next year, CBF TV will produce the live feed for all matches and distribute a single signal to rights holders, following the model used by CONMEBOL, UEFA, and FIFA. The federation will also offer commercial inventory during broadcasts.

The stronger rights valuation follows changes to the Copa do Brasil format, with participation growing from 92 to 126 clubs and matches increasing from 122 to 155 in 2026. The field expands to 128 teams in 2027, with 157 matches per year from that season onward.
