Atlanta will turn back to Michael Penix Jr. at quarterback for Thursday night's Week 3 road game against the Packers.
Atlanta Falcons head coach Kevin Stefanski announced that Michael Penix Jr. will be under center when the team visits the Green Bay Packers for Thursday Night Football in Week 3. Kickoff at Lambeau Field is set for 8:15 p.m. ET.
The assignment marks Penix's first game action since Week 11 of the 2025 NFL season, when he suffered a torn ACL in a game against the Carolina Panthers. Before the injury, he was performing well in that contest against a Panthers side that went on to claim the NFC South title.
The Falcons enter the matchup searching for their first victory of the year after a 34-3 loss to Carolina in Week 2. Quarterback play was a major problem in that defeat.
A former first-round selection, Penix has appeared in 14 NFL games, starting 12, and has thrown for 2,757 yards with 12 touchdowns against six interceptions.
