Giants Top Twins 5-2 as Young Bats Shine, But Tidwell Exits With Elbow Issue

Drew Gilbert went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and the San Francisco Giants beat the Minnesota Twins 5-2 Monday night at Oracle Park, though starter Blade Tidwell left the game in the fourth inning with elbow discomfort.

Tidwell departed one batter after allowing a solo home run to Brooks Lee, the Twins third baseman's 24th of the season. Tristan Beck relieved Tidwell and retired all eight batters he faced to earn his first win of the year, and Trent Harris closed it out with a perfect ninth for his second save.

Bo Davidson singled on the ninth pitch of his first major league at-bat, then stole second and scored on Brett Harris' two-run single. In the second inning, a Christian Koss double and a two-run Gilbert single off starter Zebby Matthews pushed the lead to 4-0, and Gilbert added a leadoff home run in the fifth, his 11th of the season.

Marcelo Mayer, acquired from Boston in the Erik Miller trade, made his Giants debut and struck out in all four plate appearances. Former Giant Taylor Rogers threw 1.1 scoreless innings in relief for Minnesota.
