Great Britain Knocked Out of Billie Jean King Cup by Czechia

Great Britain fell 2-0 to tournament favorites Czechia in the quarter-finals, with Sonay Kartal and Katie Boulter both beaten in straight-set ties that went the distance.

Great Britain's run at the Billie Jean King Cup Finals ended in the quarter-finals with a 2-0 defeat against Czechia. With both singles matches going to the Czechs, the concluding doubles rubber was not played.

Sonay Kartal, competing in her first match back after roughly six months out with a lower back injury, pushed Marie Bouzkova through three sets over three hours before falling 7-6 (7-2), 4-6, 6-4. Kartal is ranked world No. 127, 101 places below Bouzkova.

British No. 1 Katie Boulter then faced Olympic champion Linda Noskova, ranked No. 6 in the world, and lost 6-2, 7-6 (3) despite a strong push in the second set. Noskova delivered 15 aces and landed 71% of her first serves in the win.

The draw was always going to be difficult for Anne Keothavong's squad: every Czech player was ranked higher in singles than her British counterpart, and Czechia is the only team in the eight-team field with two top-10 players in Noskova and No. 8 Karolina Muchova.

The result marks Britain's earliest exit from the competition since 2023, extending their wait for a first title in the event. Czechia, an 11-time champion coached by Barbora Strycova and seeking its first crown since 2018, advances to face either Kazakhstan or Spain in the semi-finals.
