New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart left Monday night's Week 2 loss to the Los Angeles Rams with a knee injury and is expected to miss time, according to a report from NFL Media and ESPN insider Ian Rapoport.

Dart was hurt on the Giants' opening drive when he was hit by two Rams defenders after a throw on the seventh play from scrimmage. He stayed on the ground holding his leg and did not return to the game.

There were some encouraging early signs. Dart walked off the field and to the locker room without assistance, X-rays on the knee came back negative, and he reportedly wanted to re-enter the game before being held out.

The report indicated a possible MCL sprain. Dart is scheduled for an MRI on Tuesday to determine the severity of the damage, which will shape his timeline for a return. His status for Week 3 and beyond remains unclear.
