Zach Ertz Rejoins Eagles, 11 Catches From Franchise Record

The veteran tight end signed to Philadelphia's practice squad after Dallas Goedert's knee injury and sits near the top of the team's record book.

The Philadelphia Eagles have signed tight end Zach Ertz to their practice squad, bringing back a player who spent 2013 through 2021 with the organization. The move follows news that tight end Dallas Goedert will miss several weeks with a knee injury, and Ertz could be elevated to the active roster in short order.

Ertz enters his second stint in Philadelphia with 579 receptions as an Eagle, leaving him 11 catches behind Harold Carmichael's franchise record of 589. He is also 179 receiving yards from matching wide receiver Mike Quick for fourth place on the team's all-time list.

How much the 35-year-old plays remains uncertain. Ertz tore the ACL in his right knee last December while with the Washington Commanders, ending his season, and he has 13 NFL seasons of wear on his body.

Prior to the injury, Ertz remained productive. In 13 starts for Washington last season, he caught 50 passes for 504 yards and four touchdowns, after a 17-start campaign the year before with 66 receptions, 654 yards and seven scores.

If healthy, Ertz could give quarterback Jalen Hurts another target in the passing game while Goedert is sidelined.
