Winston takes blame after rough relief outing in Giants' loss to Rams

With Jaxson Dart expected to miss time, Jameis Winston pointed to poor execution after a costly interception in New York's 28-6 defeat.

The Los Angeles Rams picked up their first victory of the year on Sunday, downing the New York Giants 28-6 and handing New York its first defeat of the season.

The bigger concern for the Giants was at quarterback, where rookie Jaxson Dart left with an injury that is expected to sideline him for two to four weeks. That thrust veteran backup Jameis Winston into action, and he struggled, connecting on 11 of 27 throws for 111 yards.

Winston also killed a promising drive with a red-zone interception. Afterward, he explained that pressure up the middle forced an early throw, allowing the cornerback to undercut the receiver and jump the route.

The veteran pointed the finger at himself for inaccurate passes on early downs, noting the offense repeatedly faced long third-down situations. He said he and the team must perform better on first and second down to avoid those spots.

Winston added that his role while Dart recovers is to keep the Giants competitive so they do not fall too far behind, with a start against the Titans likely next on his schedule.
