Liverpool's Minteh Interest Complicated by Gakpo's Form, Analyst Says

Journalist David Lynch says signing Yankuba Minteh in January would not make sense unless Cody Gakpo leaves Liverpool.

Liverpool's long-standing admiration for Brighton-style winger Yankuba Minteh is unlikely to translate into a January transfer, according to journalist David Lynch. Speaking on Anfield Index's Media Matters podcast, Lynch said the club may still rate the player but questioned how he would fit into the current squad.

Lynch argued that any move for Minteh would require an outgoing player first. "You probably have to shift someone because I don't understand how that would work," he said, pointing to the difficulty of distributing minutes in an already crowded attacking group.

Cody Gakpo's strong start to the season, including his role in creating the winning goal at Bournemouth, has strengthened his position on the right side of Liverpool's attack. Lynch described the current setup as "working nicely at times" while acknowledging it is not perfect, and noted there is no certainty that January interest in Gakpo would even exist.

Lynch added that signing another winger would also affect opportunities for younger squad members and raise squad-registration issues around non-homegrown players. He did not rule out a future move, but said completing one while the existing forward group remains intact "wouldn't really make any sense."
