Lewis Hall Explains Decision to Reject Man United Interest and Stay at Newcastle

The 22-year-old left-back says manager Matthias Jaissle's vision made committing to Newcastle an easy call after summer interest from Old Trafford.

Lewis Hall said turning down summer interest from Manchester United and remaining at Newcastle was an easy decision. The 22-year-old left-back was a target for United as they looked for reinforcement at the position, but a transfer never came together.

Speaking to Chronicle Live, Hall said the speculation did not unsettle him and that he viewed the links as a sign of his own performances. After talking with new manager Matthias Jaissle, he quickly became convinced by the club's direction and signed a long-term contract.

"I knew how much I love playing here and I knew that since the manager came in, I knew the ambitions and what we wanted to achieve," Hall said.

A product of Chelsea's academy, Hall has made 109 appearances for Newcastle over the past three seasons. He scored in Saturday's 2-1 win over Hull City and has been recalled to the England squad by Thomas Tuchel after being left out of the World Cup plans.

Hall said he expects further transfer speculation around his name but is focused on taking things game by game, adding that he believes he will be at Newcastle "for a long time."
