Marseille entered the match sitting in the Ligue 1 relegation zone after years of financial strain forced repeated sales of key players without adequate replacements.

PSG, reigning back-to-back UEFA Champions League winners, have made a slow start to the season, something that has become familiar under Luis Enrique. Marseille had chances despite the disparity.
