Liverpool Lean on Mac Allister After Failed Summer Sale Plans

Liverpool reportedly tried to sell Alexis Mac Allister and did not offer him a new contract, yet he has become the club's standout midfielder this season.

Liverpool reportedly attempted to sell midfielder Alexis Mac Allister during the summer transfer window and bring in a replacement, but the move never materialized, according to Yahoo Sports.

Instead, the Argentina international has become the club's leading midfielder this season, including a strong all-around performance in Sunday's Premier League match at Bournemouth, contributing in possession and in defense.

Per the report, Mac Allister himself has indicated Liverpool do not feel they are in a position to reward him with a new contract, even though the club handed new deals to fellow midfielders Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch this year.

Liverpool's wider summer plans also collapsed, the report adds. The club missed out on signing Yan Diomande, who moved toward Real Madrid after Paris Saint-Germain's involvement, and pivoted to Bradley Barcola, leaving the squad with four left-wingers and no natural right-sided option.

Attempts to sell Cody Gakpo and sign a right-sided player such as Yankuba Minteh or Ismaila Sarr also fell through.
