Malawi Drawn With Egypt, Angola and South Sudan in AFCON 2027 Qualifying

The Flames will aim to return to the Africa Cup of Nations for the first time since 2021 after being placed in a challenging Group B.

Malawi have been drawn in Group B for Africa Cup of Nations 2027 qualifying alongside Egypt, Angola and South Sudan. The top two teams in the group will advance to the finals, which Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda are set to host. Head coach Kalisto Pasuwa called the draw fair while stressing the need for strong preparation and unity.

Egypt, the record seven-time African champions, are expected to be the toughest test in the group, with a squad featuring players at the top level of European football. Angola have grown increasingly competitive and reached the quarter-finals of the 2023 tournament, losing 1-0 to Nigeria. South Sudan may offer Malawi their clearest chance at points, though recent meetings between the two sides suggest no fixture can be taken lightly.

Malawi's last AFCON appearance came in 2021, when they reached the knockout stage for the first time before falling to Morocco in the round of 16. Qualifying opens with two matchdays in the September-October international window, followed by a double-header in November and the final two matches in March 2027.
