Antonio Conte Emerges as Target for Manchester United, Juventus and Milan

The out-of-work Italian is being linked to three clubs as Michael Carrick, Luciano Spalletti and Ruben Amorim all face scrutiny over slow starts.

Antonio Conte is without a club since leaving Napoli in the summer, and according to Italian outlets cited by the Manchester Evening News, three major sides are monitoring him. Juventus and AC Milan are both reported admirers, while Manchester United are named as another club that could pursue him. Corriere dello Sport, as referenced by the MEN, believes Conte would listen if Old Trafford came calling, though there is no sign United have made contact or started any process to replace Michael Carrick.

Carrick's position has come under question after a disappointing opening to the Premier League season, with United taking five points from their first five matches. A 1-1 result against Fulham just before the international break added to the criticism. Even so, the MEN reports the club is not anticipated to act during the current three-week pause, and Carrick is set to stay in his role for now.

United are not alone in facing questions about their bench. Spalletti's Juventus and Amorim's Milan, Amorim being Carrick's predecessor at United, have both begun poorly. Conte, who won the Premier League with Chelsea and previously managed Tottenham, is said to have turned down Fenerbahce and a return to the Italy job, which has since gone back to Roberto Mancini. His history of mid-season appointments, such as joining Tottenham in November 2021 after Nuno Espirito Santo's exit, keeps him in the conversation if results fail to improve.
