Giants QB Jaxson Dart expected to miss time with knee injury

The rookie left Monday's loss to the Rams after five pass attempts, but early signs point to an absence measured in weeks rather than months.

Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart left Monday night's 28-6 loss to the Rams after just five pass attempts, suffering an apparent MCL sprain in his left knee on the game's opening series.

Rams linebacker Byron Young struck Dart's left knee as he threw, driving the knee into linebacker Josiah Stewart. Dart grabbed at the knee before walking off under his own power, then was taken to the locker room by cart.

ESPN's Jordan Raanan reported that X-rays on the knee came back negative and that Dart tried to re-enter the game in the first half before team medical staff stopped him. Giants general manager Joe Schoen told ESPN's Laura Rutledge that Dart "was going to be OK."

Head coach John Harbaugh said Dart will have an MRI on Tuesday to determine the severity of the injury. SNY's Connor Hughes reported the Giants anticipate a 2-4 week absence, with Dart possibly wearing a knee brace when he returns.

That timeline matches the usual recovery for a Grade 2 MCL sprain. Comparable cases include Jordan Love, who missed two games in 2024, and T.J. Watt, who sat out Pittsburgh's wild-card game after a Week 18 MCL sprain that year.
