Denis Zakaria, AS Monaco's 29-year-old captain, pulled out of Switzerland's squad for the coming international window on Monday. According to L'Équipe, the midfielder has been dealing with adductor pain.
The problem, per the French outlet, had been present for several days before Monaco faced RC Lens on Friday. That match made the condition worse, and the Swiss international came off in the 76th minute, with academy product Pape Cabral taking his place.
Speaking after the game in a mixed zone attended by Get French Football News, Zakaria played down the concern while acknowledging a physical issue prompted his substitution, saying it was okay. He was ultimately unable to join up with his national team.
The former Juventus and Chelsea player will remain at La Turbie during the international break and is targeting a return when Toulouse FC visit on 10 October.
