Scotland eye Australia win in WXV after Canada and New Zealand losses

Meryl Smith says Scotland feel no extra pressure heading into Saturday's WXV Global Series match against Australia despite two heavy defeats.

Scotland center Meryl Smith says the team is not feeling extra pressure to win its WXV Global Series match against Australia on Saturday. The Scots entered the contest on the back of lopsided losses to Canada and New Zealand, the sides ranked second and third in the world.

"We're not too worried about the pressure and the expectation," Smith told the BBC Scotland Rugby Podcast. She said the recent matches were focused on Scotland's own performance, and the squad wants to show its best version on the field.

"If we do that we will expect the results to come," Smith said. She added that the team is still building and is very different from the side that last faced Australia one or two years ago.

Australia sits one spot below Scotland in the world rankings. Smith acknowledged Scotland is targeting the result in this match after using the previous two games to assess where the squad stands and what it needs to improve.
