Las Vegas Aces head coach Becky Hammon says the league's 1-1-1 opening-round format gives higher-seeded teams no real home-court advantage.
Las Vegas Aces head coach Becky Hammon has criticized the WNBA's first-round playoff structure, saying the current 1-1-1 format does not reward higher-seeded teams. Speaking in a video posted on the Aces' YouTube channel, Hammon said the setup should be changed to 2-1 or expanded into a five-game series.
"The 1-1-1, I don't think, is a good setup. It is what it is," Hammon said. She added that the format offers "no advantage for the higher seed, really" and noted that any change is not her decision to make.
Las Vegas enters the postseason conversation with a 29-13 record, third in the league, and two games remaining on its schedule. Under the current bracket, the Aces are lined up to meet the sixth-seeded Washington Mystics in the opening round.
Washington most recently defeated the Indiana Fever 93-77.
