McVay points finger at himself over Rams' Australia travel plan

Sean McVay said his decision to fly to Australia late left the Rams unprepared in their Week 1 loss to the 49ers, before they rebounded against the Giants.

Los Angeles Rams coach Sean McVay took responsibility for his team's Week 1 defeat to the San Francisco 49ers in Australia, saying his travel arrangements put the players at a disadvantage.

The Rams chose to arrive in Australia roughly 24 hours before kickoff, intending to skip adjusting to the time change entirely. The 49ers, by contrast, traveled a week early and had time to acclimate, and they won the game 27-7. That schedule drew widespread criticism afterward.

Asked why his team performed so differently on Monday night, McVay pointed to his own decision-making. "Sometimes you win, sometimes you learn and sometimes you have a dumbass coach that makes travel plans that puts you in bad spots," he said.

The comments came after the Rams defeated the New York Giants 28-6 in Los Angeles on Monday night, a performance that looked far sharper than the season opener overseas.
