Six-Year-Old Lian Yunzhi Sets Rubik's Cube Women's World Record

The Chinese speedcuber from Chengdu broke the women's 3x3 average world record twice in September at competitions in Wuhan and Guangzhou.

Lian Yunzhi, a six-year-old from Chengdu, China, has set a new women's world record for the 3x3 Rubik's Cube, according to state broadcaster CCTV.

The young speedcuber broke the women's 3x3 average record twice in September at World Cube Association certified competitions held in Wuhan and Guangzhou. She recorded averages of 4.52 seconds and then 4.27 seconds, each measured across five solves.

CCTV reported that Lian is the first female speedcuber to average under 4.5 seconds.

Her mother, Lin Yangxi, told Chengdu's Red Star News that Lian was introduced to cubing through a class alongside other activities such as dance and music. She has since learned more than 1,300 solving algorithms and practices two to three hours daily.

Lin said cubing helps develop focus, memory, logical thinking and spatial awareness, and teaches children how to handle both winning and losing.
