Indiana High Schooler Addisyn Baird Debuts in Women's Pro Baseball

Addisyn Baird, a senior at The Hill School, became the only high school player in the Women's Pro Baseball League when she took the field for the LA Queens on Sept. 3.

Addisyn Baird, an 18-year-old from Granger, Indiana, made her professional baseball debut for the Los Angeles Queens on Sept. 3, becoming the only high school player in the Women's Pro Baseball League. A senior at The Hill School in Pennsylvania, she started in left field against the New York Heights, batted eighth and went 1-for-3 with a single, a walk and a run scored. She shared the outfield that day with Mo'ne Davis, the pitcher who made Little League World Series history in 2014.

Baird's path to the pros ran largely through boys' teams. She began T-ball at age 4 and later competed at the elite national level, also playing football, hockey and soccer. She was the only Indiana prospect selected in the inaugural WPBL Draft, taken 19th overall in Round 6 at age 17, and signed with the Queens in late August.

Her father, Travis Baird, said she regularly faced skepticism and resistance while playing alongside boys, but that she consistently performed at the top of her teams. She participated in MLB youth development programs and Baseball For All, playing internationally in Japan in 2023 and the Philippines in 2024.

Before transferring to The Hill School, Baird spent three years at Penn High School in Mishawaka, where she played softball and helped the team win sectional and regional titles. She also maintains a 4.5 GPA and hopes to attend medical school, while continuing to play professional baseball for as long as she can.
