La Liga President Tebas Rejects Mourinho's Refereeing Complaints

Javier Tebas publicly pushed back against José Mourinho, saying claims of a refereeing conspiracy against Real Madrid lack any basis.

La Liga president Javier Tebas has responded publicly to José Mourinho in a lengthy social media post, rejecting the suggestion that referees are acting against Real Madrid.

Tebas wrote that a narrative of permanent conspiracy is being built and noted that clubs can be officiated by both international and non-international referees, adding that no club is entitled to tailor-made officiating. He also argued that a refereeing mistake does not prove a conspiracy.

The league president acknowledged that Real Madrid is hugely important to La Liga but said claims that the league is worth nothing without the club show contempt for other teams, their supporters, and their histories. He added that the competition belongs to no single club.

Tebas also suggested the conspiracy narrative serves to mask shortcomings visible in Real Madrid's opening matches of the season, saying it is easier to allege a plot than to explain results on the pitch.
