Haliburton Eyes Full-Strength Return, New Look With Zubac in Frontcourt

The Pacers guard says he feels great after Achilles surgery, agrees with his surgeon's prediction of a 100% recovery, and expects an adjustment playing alongside Ivica Zubac.

Indiana Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton said he expects to be ready for the start of the season as he works back from the Achilles injury he suffered early in Game 7 of the 2025 NBA Finals against Oklahoma City. Speaking in a one-on-one interview with IndyStar after a hospital visit, he said he feels no need for patience from others regarding his return.

His surgeon, Dr. Martin O'Malley, predicted a full recovery for Haliburton, calling him an ideal patient. Haliburton said he shares that outlook completely and has no excuses lined up if his play lags early.

Haliburton also addressed the change at center, where Indiana acquired Ivica Zubac in February after Myles Turner left in free agency for the Milwaukee Bucks. He described Zubac as more of an interior force while Turner was the better outside shooter, calling the shift an adjustment the whole roster welcomes.

The 29-year-old Zubac is entering his 11th NBA season. He averaged 14.4 points and 11.0 rebounds per game last season while shooting 61.3% from the field and ranking fifth in the league in rebounding.

Looking ahead, Haliburton said returning to the NBA Finals is firmly the team's goal. He acknowledged the Pacers fell short of their own standard last season and said training camp is meant to correct that.
