UCLA Wide Receiver Mikey Matthews Out for Season After Foot Surgery

Coach Bob Chesney said Matthews, who was hurt in Week 2 against San Diego State, underwent season-ending foot surgery.

UCLA wide receiver Mikey Matthews will miss the remainder of the 2026 season after undergoing foot surgery, head coach Bob Chesney announced Monday. Matthews suffered the injury during the Bruins' Week 2 game against San Diego State.

Chesney told reporters that the surgery ends Matthews' year. The receiver had opened the season with four catches for 88 yards against Cal in the opener before the injury.

The loss removes a target from quarterback Nico Iamaleava's arsenal, but other receivers have stepped up. Leland Smith, Brian Rowe Jr. and Semaj Morgan made plays in Saturday's win over Purdue, a game in which Iamaleava threw his first three touchdown passes of the season.

Matthews began his college career at Utah, where he recorded 261 yards as a freshman, then spent a season at Cal before transferring to UCLA. He posted 348 yards while appearing in all 12 games for the Bruins last season.
