Akron Marathon Still Needs Volunteers for Race Weekend

Organizers of the Akron Marathon are filling volunteer shifts for the Sept. 26 race and for expo setup and relay exchanges across the event weekend.

Race organizers in Akron are still looking for people to lend a hand during marathon weekend, with openings both on race day itself and in the days beforehand.

Ahead of the event, volunteers are needed to set up the Health & Fitness Expo at the John S. Knight Center, 77 E. Mill St., on Thursday, Sept. 24, from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., and to staff the expo on Friday, Sept. 25, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

On race day, Saturday, Sept. 26, four relay exchange zones require help: Wolf Ledges from 6:30 to 9:30 a.m., North Main Street from 6:45 to 11 a.m., Sand Run from 7:15 a.m. to noon, and Firestone Community Learning Center from 7:45 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Additional race-day roles include working the finish line chute or distributing Acme food bags, with a shift running from 6:45 a.m. to 2 p.m.
