Sixteen high school athletes from Stark County, Ohio, are in the running for Athlete of the Week honors covering Sept. 14-19, with readers deciding one girls winner and one boys winner. Voting stays open until 5 p.m. Thursday, and the Canton Repository will announce the results Friday morning on CantonRep.com.
On the girls side, the ballot includes soccer players Kyla Brinton of Lake and Reese Riley of Louisville, tennis standout Makenzie Fearon of Perry, and volleyball nominees Annie Guappone of Marlington, Ayla Shallenberger of Minerva and Ella Wade of Fairless. Cross country is represented by Louisville's Hayden Meyer and Minerva's Tateum Richard.
The boys field features cross country runners Sam Baker of North Canton Hoover, Liam Barry of Jackson and Logan Howard of Canton South, plus golfers, soccer players and football standouts. Nick Lytle of Tuslaw and Iden Tate of Marlington join football nominees Cashe Brisker of Alliance, Kyelin West of Canton McKinley and Gary Yeager of Massillon.
The nominations are based on results submitted to the Repository sports staff. Recent winners this fall include Emma Haupt of Jackson soccer, Ontrell Hunter of Fairless football, Morgan Rosenberry of Jackson volleyball and Colin Harris of Northwest soccer. Fall winners are not eligible to win again until the winter season.
