Savannah Area High School Athlete of the Week Poll Open Through Sept. 29

Readers can vote in an unrestricted poll to pick the Savannah Morning News High School Athlete of the Week after a big Friday night around Greater Savannah.

The Savannah Morning News has opened a reader poll for its High School Athlete of the Week, recognizing standouts from the Greater Savannah area's Friday night action. Voting has no restrictions and closes Tuesday, Sept. 29, at 11 a.m.

Football headlines the ballot. Benedictine's Eron Mallard, a Purdue commit, caught six passes for 171 yards and three touchdowns and added a rushing score in a 42-21 comeback win at Statesboro. Teammate Omari Burse threw for 236 yards and three scores in that game.

Savannah Country Day running back Thomas Holland rushed for 129 yards and a touchdown, made seven tackles and intercepted a pass as the Hornets beat Savannah Christian 21-10 for their first win over the Raiders since 2021. Bradwell Institute's Jah'barri Felix threw for 344 yards and five touchdowns against Glynn Academy.

Volleyball is represented by two players reaching career milestones. Savannah Christian junior Myla Shippy recorded her 1,000th career kill while combining for 26 kills and 14 digs in sweeps of Richmond Hill and South Effingham, and Savannah Country Day senior Olivia Oliotta also notched her 1,000th career kill.

Other candidates include South Effingham's Khyran White (190 rushing yards, three touchdowns), Richmond Hill cross-country runners Eddie Howell and Chloe Miller from the Wingfoot XC Classic in Cartersville, and Raider Invitational winners Gaby Kenard and Kelvin Banks Jr.
