Georgia raises Wes Johnson's salary to $1.55 million

The Bulldogs' baseball coach received a $200,000 raise and a one-year contract extension after leading Georgia to the College World Series.

Georgia has increased baseball coach Wes Johnson's annual compensation to $1.55 million, a $200,000 jump from the $1.35 million he had previously been scheduled to earn. The school shared the figure with the Athens Banner-Herald on Monday in response to an open records request.

On Sept. 16, Georgia also announced that Johnson's contract had been extended by one year, running now through the 2032 season. His earnings have risen sharply since he arrived in 2023 at $700,000 per year, coming off roles as a pitching coach with LSU and the Minnesota Twins.

Under Johnson, the Bulldogs reached the College World Series for the first time since 2008. Last season, his team claimed the SEC regular season championship, also a first since 2008, and captured the program's first-ever SEC Tournament title.

Baseball America ranked Johnson as the country's 14th-highest-paid coach last season based on average annual salary. Six Southeastern Conference counterparts earn more than his new $1.55 million figure: LSU's Jay Johnson at $3.35 million, Mississippi State's Brian O'Connor at $2.9 million, Vanderbilt's Tim Corbin at $2.45 million, Texas' Jim Schlossnagle at $2.25 million, Florida's Kevin O'Sullivan at $1.84 million, and Ole Miss' Mike Bianco at $1.625 million. Arkansas also disclosed last month that Dave Van Horn's new agreement will pay him $2.1 million per year.
