New York Liberty forward Breanna Stewart was assessed a technical foul Monday night after arguing with an official over a play involving Atlanta Dream forward Angel Reese.
With Atlanta leading by eight in the fourth quarter, Stewart drove toward the basket and Reese appeared to knock the ball away as Stewart went up. No foul was called, and Stewart's reaction drew a technical from the referee.
Speaking to reporters afterward, Stewart said Reese struck the ball from her hand and that Reese should be responsible for covering any fine she receives for the outburst.
The sequence added tension between two teams that could potentially meet again in the postseason.
