Giants lose Jaxson Dart and Brian Burns to injuries in 28-6 defeat to Rams

The Giants fell to 1-1 Monday night, with quarterback Jaxson Dart exiting early with a knee injury and linebacker Brian Burns hurting his ankle.

The New York Giants dropped to 1-1 with a 28-6 loss to the Los Angeles Rams at SoFi Stadium on Monday night, a game overshadowed by injuries. Quarterback Jaxson Dart left with a left knee injury on the opening drive after taking a hit while throwing on third down. Linebacker Brian Burns exited late in the fourth quarter with an ankle injury.

Coach John Harbaugh said afterward that Dart's injury appeared to be in the area of an MCL sprain, and X-rays on the quarterback's knee were negative. The team has not confirmed a diagnosis pending MRI results, but general manager Joe Schoen said he expected Dart to be okay. Harbaugh described Burns' initial diagnosis as a low ankle sprain, with further evaluation still needed.

Jameis Winston replaced Dart and completed 11 of 27 passes for 111 yards with an interception as the Giants failed to reach the end zone. New York was outgained 439-147. The defense forced three takeaways, including two interceptions by Jevon Holland, but Matthew Stafford and Davante Adams proved too much; Adams caught seven passes for 184 yards and a touchdown.

Malik Nabers and Andrew Thomas also left the game at points for New York. Abdul Carter recorded his first sack of the season in the loss.

The Giants host the Tennessee Titans at MetLife Stadium on Sunday, then face Arizona at home before a road game at Washington.
