Andy Robertson says Tottenham's players need to let go of last season's disappointments and stay composed as they try to climb off the bottom of the Premier League.
Tottenham enter the international break at the bottom of the Premier League with only two points from their opening five matches. The poor start comes despite a summer outlay of £380 million on 10 new signings under head coach Roberto De Zerbi.
Defender Andy Robertson, who joined the club after his Liverpool contract expired, said the squad remains determined to reverse its fortunes. Speaking on The Overlap's Stick to Football podcast, the Scotland captain said the weight of recent disappointing league finishes is still being felt.
Robertson pointed to recent matches as evidence of the team's fragility. He said Spurs played well in stretches of the 3-1 Carabao Cup defeat to Liverpool on September 15 but dropped their heads after conceding, and that they dominated the 0-0 draw with Everton on September 12 before growing panicked and rushed late in the game.
The 32-year-old, who won two Premier League titles and the 2019 Champions League with Liverpool, said Tottenham was his preferred destination all along, provided the club preserved its top-flight status. He added that he expects the team to improve as the season progresses.
