Chicago's backup quarterback is now in the league's concussion protocol, clouding the team's quarterback situation for Monday night's matchup with Philadelphia.
Chicago Bears quarterback Tyson Bagent has entered the NFL's concussion protocol, a person with knowledge of the situation told The Associated Press on Tuesday. The source spoke on the condition of anonymity because Chicago had yet to publish its opening injury report of the week.
Bagent had been in line to handle the majority of first-team practice work after Caleb Williams exited Sunday's 9-3 defeat to Minnesota with a right hamstring issue. Head coach Ben Johnson described Williams as week to week but did not rule out the 2024 draft's top overall selection for the game against the Eagles.
Should both quarterbacks be unavailable Monday night, Case Keenum would likely get the call. The 38-year-old has started 66 games over his career, though his most recent regular-season pass came on Dec. 24, 2023, with Houston against Cleveland.
Bagent completed 5 of 9 passes for 54 yards in the loss to the Vikings and was sacked by Dallas Turner on the game's final snap. The 26-year-old starred at Division II Shepherd University before joining the Bears as an undrafted free agent in May 2023.
As a rookie, Bagent appeared in five games with four starts, throwing for 859 yards with three touchdowns and six interceptions. He agreed to a two-year contract extension in August 2025.
