Red Sox lock in Chad Tracy as manager, pick up Breslow options

Boston removed the interim label from Tracy with a deal covering three seasons and also committed to Craig Breslow through 2030.

The Boston Red Sox have made Chad Tracy their permanent manager, handing the 49th skipper in club history a three-year deal that runs through 2029 and includes a team option for 2030. He had been running the club on an interim basis since April 26, taking the reins when the team sat at 10-17, level with the second-worst record in the American League at that point.

Boston responded with a 74-55 record from there, which ranked second in the AL and fifth across Major League Baseball. That stretch featured a 27-3 surge between July 3 and Aug. 7, among the finest runs the franchise has ever produced, and included a 15-game win streak equaling a club mark first set in 1946.

Team president and CEO Sam Kennedy credited Tracy with earning quick trust after stepping into a tough spot on short notice, noting it was built through years of work inside the organization. Tracy spent 2022 through 2025 managing Triple-A Worcester, delivering winning seasons in all four full campaigns there, after seven seasons in the Los Angeles Angels system.

The club also picked up 2029 and 2030 options on Chief Baseball Officer Craig Breslow, who has run baseball operations since October 2023. A member of Boston's 2013 World Series winners, Breslow has overseen a 254-226 record, the third best in the AL over that period. Kennedy said both men have the club's confidence going forward.
