Oklahoma's David Stone avoids serious knee injury, Venables says

Sooners coach Brent Venables said X-rays on defensive tackle David Stone's knee came back positive after a practice injury on Monday.

Oklahoma defensive tackle David Stone went down with a knee injury during Monday's practice, but head coach Brent Venables indicated Tuesday night that the issue may not be serious. Speaking to reporters, with comments relayed by Brody Lusk of Sooners Illustrated, Venables said X-rays came back positive.

Venables explained that Stone was not playing offense, contrary to some reports, when the injury occurred. He said Stone's knee collided with a scout-team player during a jog-through and briefly popped out. The coach added that Stone described his pain as about a two out of 10.

Stone has been a key piece of an Oklahoma defense that has helped the Sooners to a 2-1 record through three games. He has recorded 12 tackles and 2.0 tackles for loss this season.

Oklahoma opens SEC play on the road this weekend against the Georgia Bulldogs. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. CT on ESPN.
