Week 4 Roundup: Clemson Wins at Cal, Florida 4-0, Iowa Edges Michigan

Clemson improved to 3-1 with a win at Cal, Florida reached 4-0 under John Sumrall, Wake Forest upset Louisville and Iowa edged Michigan on the game's final play.

The fourth week of the college football season produced a batch of results that pushed several programs in different directions. Clemson won its third consecutive game after an opening loss, Florida stayed perfect under a first-year coach, Wake Forest knocked off Louisville and Iowa beat Michigan on the final play in Ann Arbor.

Clemson improved to 3-1 by winning at Cal on Friday night after making the cross-country trip on a shortened week. Dabo Swinney's team lost its season opener to LSU and has won every game since, showing gradual progress along the way. The Tigers play Miami this week.

Cal quarterback Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele is in his second season and has completed 64% of his passes, with seven touchdown passes against four interceptions. His year has included both strong outings and uneven ones. Against Clemson on Friday, he threw no touchdown passes and was intercepted twice in the defeat.

Michigan lost at home to Iowa, which won by one point on the game's final play. In the third quarter, with the Wolverines leading by three, quarterback Bryce Underwood threw an interception at the Iowa two-yard line, a possession on which any score would have extended the Michigan lead. Underwood's NIL arrangement at Michigan was funded by booster Larry Ellison, the founder of Oracle, along with his wife, a Michigan alum who wanted the quarterback at the school.
