Georgia offensive lineman Drew Bobo has picked up a temporary corporate role: the red-and-black blocker revealed on social media that Cracker Barrel named him "VP, Pancake Communications." The announcement coincides with the restaurant chain's National Pancake Day promotion.
In his post, Bobo declared his opening task would be getting pancake blocks recognized as an official statistic, and he pointed followers toward a petition hosted at pancakepetition.com. The post included images of players flattening defenders on the field.
Cracker Barrel is using the holiday campaign to push for formal recognition of the pancake block. Under the restaurant's proposed definition, the play consists of "imposing your will on an opponent by driving him off his feet and putting him flat on the ground."
The chain's suggested guidelines require the block to be legal, occur during live game action, and directly cause the defender to hit the ground. Its proposal also allows any position to be credited with a pancake block. Because box scores currently lack any such category, the petition aims to change that.
The choice of Bobo as pitchman fits the theme. An Athens native, he wears No. 74 for the Bulldogs and is listed as an active senior on the roster at 6-foot-5 and 305 pounds. He is the son of Georgia offensive coordinator Mike Bobo.
Cracker Barrel's National Pancake Day falls on Saturday, Sept. 26. To mark it, the chain is selling $5 all-you-can-eat pancakes for dine-in guests.
The deal starts with a serving of three buttermilk pancakes, with subsequent refills arriving two at a time, per the company's terms. The offer applies to a single diner and is not shareable.
Drinks, toppings, fillings, extras, eggs, meats, sides, taxes and tips are excluded from the price. The company also reserves the right to cap refills as needed to curb waste, abuse or overconsumption.
