Giants Face Life Without Jaxson Dart; Jimmy Garoppolo Seen as Option

With Jaxson Dart possibly sidelined for the year, analysts point to veteran free agent Jimmy Garoppolo as a candidate to lead the Giants' offense.

New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart left Sunday's game early, and the outlook has grown worse. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the injury is more serious than first believed and could keep Dart out for the remainder of the season.

Bleacher Report's Adam Wells examined quarterbacks the Giants could pursue through free agency or a trade, and his leading suggestion is Jimmy Garoppolo. Wells describes Garoppolo as the most proven of the available free agents, citing a career mark of 43 wins against 21 losses across 64 starts.

Garoppolo's most extended recent action came in 2024 with the Rams, when he threw for 334 yards and two touchdowns while posting a 97.0 passer rating. He did not see the field last season, though Wells notes that coordinator Matt Nagy's offense relies on west-coast concepts, pre-snap motion, RPOs and screen passes, areas where the veteran has experience from his 49ers tenure.

Even if Garoppolo needs time to regain form, the Giants still have playmakers such as Malik Nabers, Isaiah Likely and Cam Skattebo on offense, leaving the team with options if Dart's absence is confirmed as season-ending.
