Stoke defender Luke Graham relishes maiden Scotland call-up

The 22-year-old former Dundee defender, now at Stoke City, has earned a first senior Scotland squad selection under new manager Sebastien Pocognoli.

Stoke City defender Luke Graham has described his first senior Scotland call-up as "pretty surreal." The 22-year-old earned the nod from new national team manager Sebastien Pocognoli, who named the former Dundee player in his opening squad.

Graham has made eight Championship appearances since moving to Stoke over the summer. Speaking about learning of his selection, he said his parents happened to be visiting after watching him play, making the phone call from Pocognoli the following day especially memorable.

"My mum and dad were down because I had a game that weekend, so for him to call me the day after with them there it was pretty special - and they were fairly chuffed as well," Graham said.

With a new manager in charge, Graham said the squad is eager to make an impression. His aim is to present himself well and earn playing time. He already holds eight Scotland under-21 caps, experience he believes will ease his transition, along with knowing several teammates from that level.

The squad is training in La Manga early this week, and Graham said meeting the group and taking part in the first session under the new manager was important and enjoyable.
