The new IBF heavyweight champion says he absorbed heavy punishment early in the fight and needed days to recover before returning to training.
Filip Hrgovic has described the physical toll of his stoppage victory over Moses Itauma last month, a win that made him the IBF world heavyweight champion.
The 34-year-old Croat said he took significant punishment over the opening eight rounds and felt the effects well after the final bell.
"I received a lot of shots and I was bruised. I had a bit of a headache for a few days," Hrgovic said, adding that he felt tired and sore for several days afterward.
He returned to the gym on the Wednesday after the fight. "I didn't celebrate. I went home to rest. It was a hard fight," he said.
