Minnesota Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy could be a trade candidate, according to a proposal published by Last Word on Sports and circulated by Yahoo Sports. The suggestion links McCarthy to the New York Giants, who lost starter Jaxson Dart to a knee injury in Week 2 that may end his season.
McCarthy, a first-round pick out of Michigan in the 2024 NFL Draft, missed his rookie year with a season-ending injury suffered in the offseason. He took over as Minnesota's starter in 2025 and went 6-4 across 10 games, completing 57.6% of his passes for 1,632 yards with 11 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.
The Vikings then signed Kyler Murray, and McCarthy lost the backup competition to Carson Wentz. Wentz has been starting while Murray recovers from a concussion, leaving McCarthy buried on the depth chart.
